The early beginnings of the Defiance Group were sourcing apparel from India to Europe. As the sourcing base on both the vendor and customer side expanded, headquarters were moved to Dubai, and Defiance became the pioneer of sourcing duty-free apparel from the Middle East and Africa.
The knit fabric process house was established in 1995 as one of the technologically-superior mills in India. The effort taken on in-house laboratory, printing, and ecological care was unheard of in India. The unit was vertically-integrated with sewing in 2005 when Defiance consolidated its knit sewing into this unit. The business was focused on high-efficiency, high-volume knit basics.
Since then, the sewing abilities have been augmented with new methodologies and technology. In 2008 the group established a new garmenting unit, with a focus to consolidate knit sewing there for the future. With investments in printing, embroidery, innovative label application, and state-of-the-art cutting and sampling, DKI Apparel increased the group’s vertical skillset into value-addition in sewing as well as fabric.
The growth of garmenting happened via the acquisition in 2012 of Imperial Readymade Garments to extend the sewing skillset into wovens. With decades of knowledge in woven sourcing, the group was quickly able to add a strong base in sewing along with an advanced wet and dry garment laundry.
The Defiance Group’s in-house production capabilities continue to expand on both the knitted fabric and sewing fronts. Combining that with our strong sourcing base across Asia, we have formulated plans to service customers across the world with a mix of in-house production and strategic alliances.
